Epazote, locally famed for big portions of innovative cuisine, is also one of Del Mar’s favorite nightlife destinations. The interior is funky-fabulous, but most patrons prefer the outdoor patio, which swells with enchanting sea winds. Although weekends are the most popular, on Thursdays, Epazote harnesses Island beats with live reggae acts in the evenings.


Order an Epazote Margarita to get the party started, but take it easy—the cocktail, served in a giant shaker, is triple what you’d receive elsewhere. On Wednesdays, they cost only $5 all night. The bar also offers a late-night menu of irresistible "small bites", like crab cakes, five-layer dip, and cilantro-pesto shrimp skewers, and "large bites", like southwestern pizza and pecan-crusted chicken salad.
