$3 Million Raised to Fight Poverty in the Bay Area
Last Thursday, May 7, the 2009 Tipping Point Benefit raised $3 million in a single evening – all of which will go towards fighting poverty in the Bay Area. The event, held at Bimbo’s 365 Club in North Beach, drew nearly 600 guests including: Former SF 49er Ronnie Lott, Charles Schwab, 49er Coach Mike Singletary, jewelry designer Irene Neuwirth, Google executive Marissa Meyer, and MC Hammer. The benefit was followed by a concert featuring CAKE.

During the live auction, Tipping Point raised more than $1.5 million for its Be a Tipping Point package to create 31 units of housing, put 40 young people on the path to corporate careers, help 100 students graduate from college and preserve 7 staffing positions to meet the growing need.
The additional $1.5 million raised will support Tipping Point’s growing portfolio
of grantees (including BUILD, Compass Community Services, Shelter Network and Year Up) which Tipping Point recognizes as the best in their field.
