At a time when a challenging economy has led to cutbacks in government spending and charitable giving, the Latino Community Foundation (LCF) is announcing $250,000 in grants to 14 organizations in the Bay Area. This represents an increase in annual giving, as well as in the number of recipients, from 10 to 14 organizations.
“Now more than ever Latino non-profits are in need of support,” said LCF Executive Director Raquel F, Donoso. “These grants enable our organizations to provide much needed services to hard hit families.”
The grants were recognized at the 4th annual LCF Gala, Celebrating Philanthropy Con Sabor Latino (with Latin flavor) on March 26, 2009. LCF is a relatively new foundation entering its second round of grantmaking in support of the LCF Children and Youth Initiative. Altogether, LCF will have awarded a total of $450,000, near the half-way mark for meeting its $1-million grant-making goal in four years.
