This year the Jack McGovern Coats’ Disease Foundation, an up-and-coming organization dedicated to curing Coats’ Disease which causes blindness in children, will celebrate its second annual Eye on Fashion benefit on Thursday, March 25, 2010. The fashion forward soiree will take place at The Firm boutique in San Francisco, where guests will be treated to an evening of hors d’oeuvres, champagne, sweet treats, and shopping, with all funds raised directly benefiting Coats’ Disease research.
The Jack McGovern Coats Disease Foundation (JMCDF) was founded in 2007 by parents Tina & Ed McGovern as a promise to their son, Jack, to support research to cure Coats’ Disease, a lifelong affliction that has caused Jack partial blindness. Through local fundraising efforts and grant funding, JMCDF actively supports clinical research and encourages the development of new and effective ways of treating retinal diseases, specifically Coats’ Disease. To date, the young organization has donated over $50,000 to help those seeking treatments or cures for the disease.
“We are so thankful to have the Bay Area community behind our cause,” says Tina McGovern, JMCDF President. “The outpouring of support we’ve received has been astounding, and we are grateful for the opportunity to reach other families affected by Coats’ and provide research for children waging a lifelong battle against blindness.”
The Eye on Fashion event will feature designs by PODOLL, a handcrafted collection designed and manufactured in San Francisco by a local husband and wife team, and Jennifer Tuton, a collection of hand-made jewelry incorporating stunning gemstones positioned delicately in gold and silver. Guests will enjoy the opportunity to win raffle items and surprise gifts while shopping The Firm’s entire boutique at 15% off with 10% of all proceeds donated directly to JMCDF. The Junior League of San Francisco will be on hand as volunteers to staff the event.
