It has been announced that comic legend Jerry Lewis will make his Broadway directorial debut. Lewis is set to direct the brand new musical based on his hit 1963 classic “The Nutty Professor.”

“The Nutty Professor” is about an awkward professor named Julius Kelp who drinks a potion that temporarily turns him into a handsome yet obnoxious man named Buddy Love.

“The Nutty Professor” was remade as another motion picture in 1996. The film starred Eddie Murphy and Jada Pinkett-Smith. It was a box office smash taking in 128 million at the American Box Office and it spawned a sequel “The Nutty Professor II: The Klumps” which was released in 2000.

Robert Holmes and Marvin Hamlisch have teamed up to write the score for the piece and “The Nutty Professor” is expected to hit the Broadway stage in 2010.
