This Thursday a friend of mine and I went out for drinks and ended up at Detriot Bar in Costa Mesa not expecting anything special and caught local band Pop Noir's set and were completely blown away. The three-piece band looks how the Jonas Brothers would if they spend the ten to fifteen years on a steady diet of sex and drugs and sound like the Killers if Brandon Flowers worked on his songcraft as much as his image.
Pop Noir does an excellent job of marrying shiny electro pop (think Postal Service) to a more visceral, minimalist rock based attack (think Death From Above or Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and the resulting union is a whole lot of fun live. The band seems to love getting the crowd worked up, leading them in hand claps and shout alongs before diving into the audience to finsih the set with a blistering cover of "Paint it Black" and managed to sex it up even more than the Stones, if that's possible.
