Cutting the Cord(s)

Written by: Laurel May
Yesterday I had my first Etheric Cord Flush. Although it may sound like some trendy new colonic treatment, the Cord Flush is actually a Reiki energy healing technique. According to the Etheric Cord Flush manual (yes, there's a manual for everything) the “cords” being flushed are the (literal or figurative) energetic attachments we drag around with us. These unhealthy attachments are thought by some to negatively effect one's energy and health. These cords can attach to people, animals or even inanimate objects.

I consider this idea for less than one second before deciding I am in dire need of a good cord flush. Undoubtedly I have cobweb-like filaments connecting me to every floor of Saks in Union Square, most of Polk Street, several Scottsdale nightclubs and I also had a strong hunch that if a person were to follow my most twisted and convoluted line to its end, he or she would eventually find themselves face to face with my soon-to-be-ex-husband.

Suddenly convinced that a cocoon of cords was strangling my poor psyche, I contacted Alice Langholt, a Reiki Master currently residing in Ohio. That's right - she treated me from over 2,000 miles away. Distance healing is a special interest of Langholt's, and she's firm in her belief that it's possible that healing energy can span any distance. “... it doesn't require a phone, internet or even deep meditation. The simple act of intent causes the energy to respond. Intent is very powerful, and it is the directive that the energy will follow,” she says.

Doubtful? Reiki practitioners believe that “universal life energy” is channelled from practitioner to recipient and this energy is not bound by time or space. “You use a cell phone don't you? You use electricity? You love people? All of these are energy - invisible and powerful,” Langholt says. And besides, Reiki doesn't even require belief in order to be effective. “Just being open to trying Reiki is all you need.”

Since I am always open to just about anything, I figured I qualified, so I made my request. A short time later, I received an e-mail from Langholt that my Reiki was ready for pick up at the great universal energy drive-thru window. Following the instructions, I relaxed, tuned in and voiced the intention to accept the healing from my Reiki pen pal. The instructions mentioned that during the flush I might feel warm, tingly or even see colors, but what I felt was more akin to having my body filled with warm water from the toes up. Also, my ears popped. A lot. I assume this was the Cord Flush going to work - purportedly clearing away negative cords that should not be attached, and healing the energy of those cords that remained.

I didn't feel different afterward, but I did feel good. If nothing else, it was interesting. Much like taking a car in for regular oil changes, think of the Cord Flush as scheduled maintenance to keep one's energy clear of outside influences. I'm definitely going to pencil myself in for a 3,000 mile Etheric Cord Tune-up. And what the hell - maybe a colonic too.
