944 catches up with The Defendor stars Kat Dennings and Woody Harrelson to get some insight on life behind the scenes.
944: What was working on Defendor like?
Kat Dennings: It was a very quick shoot! And everyone - Woody (Harrelson), Peter (Stebbings, the film’s director) was so talented and great to work with.
Woody Harrelson: It was a small production - all these people were not in it for the money. It was very low-budget, so we had to make certain concessions, like shooting scenes on a line rather than shooting from different angles.
944: What drew you to your characters?
WH: Well, I read the script and thought it was a very unique story - I play a guy who thinks he’s a superhero, who has so many of his own issues, and he goes out and tries to fight crime.
KD: I liked that my character had an edge to her - she’s a prostitute, a “child of the night.”
944: What did you do to train for the fight scenes in the Defendor?
WH: I did absolutely nothing! I did yoga, but I was doing that anyway!
944: Woody, what did it feel like to be nominated this year?
WH: It’s cool to be nominated alongside such great actors...it’s been a great year for me. I feel really complete; I’m so fortunate to even be getting these roles, and I’m really in love with my family. All this stuff lately is just a nice little bonus.
