It’s that time of year again: summer. And summer in SoCal means musical festivals and concerts galore. If you read this month’s June Music Issue, you would have gotten the scoop on Kevin Lyman -- the man behind the Warped Tour. When it returns to the Home Depot Center in Carson June 25, the concert will feature 90-plus bands from across the spectrum.
In addition to its original lineup, one lucky SoCal band or artist will get to perform this leg of the tour -- and it will be decided tomorrow night at House of Blues, Anaheim. After 14 rounds of preliminaries and six semi-finals narrowing down the talent pool from 60, six will compete for the stage. This year’s finalist’s include Last Minute Decision, I & I, See For Yourself, BoB Knows Best, Suns of Jimi and Welcome Distraction -- a diverse cross of genres and a departure from previous years. Closing the night will be up-and-coming Los Angeles rapper, Sum-In-1.
Now in its fifth year, the event -- sponsored by acropolisRPM and Skinnie magazine -- starts at 7:00 p.m. In addition to my own musical two cents at the event, other guest judges include Hans Thurau, CEO of ClubDstrict.com; Luke Allen of the Orange County Museum of Art; and Ramon Gonzales, editor-in-chief of Skinnie magazine, as well as celebrity guest judges Shar Jackson of VH1’s “Celebrity Fit Club;” and Flynn Adam, Black Eyed Peas producer.
Advance tickets are $12.50; day of show is $15.00 for the all-ages event.
