944: During The Spirit you worked around Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes. What was it like to work with so many leading lady vixens?
KING: It's kinda funny because when you do green screen, you never work with your other actors. Everybody comes at different times and rarely are you actually in the same room together. Eva and I have been friends for a while and I have know her for a long time. I met Scarlet a couple of times, but we actually weren't really together on the set. It's always an honor to work with beautiful, talented and wonderful actresses, such as them.
You started out as a model and have now successfully transitioned into the acting world, how did you accomplish such a feat where other model turned actresses have failed?
It was difficult because people have the perception of you as a model and they assume that models don't know how to act. My point of view is [that] I am just going to study and master my craft so that my work is based upon my ability and not the way that I look. That way when I go into a room I know that I am proud of the work I can do, and that I can act in a way that is authentic, truthful and a powerful performance. I have studied a lot and I have trained with the best acting teachers that the best actors I know have studied with. And I still do to this day because acting is always a craft that is evolving.
Do you have any advice for other models who want to make the switch?
My advice would just be to get into class and be perseverant. Because it doesn't matter whether you're a model or a waiter, no matter where you come from, the most important thing is you stay aligned with what you want and work hard for it.
In the January issue we cover the best beauty products, how do you stay looking so fabulous?
I use, for my skin care, Epicuren. I drink a lot of water and exercise. I think water and exercise are really important for your skin. And also moisturize a lot. I love La Mer products. I also think that it is really important to use as much natural stuff on your skin, because time after time after time all those chemicals will get to your body. So water and moisturize, and I don't where a lot of makeup either.
What are your top three beauty products you couldn't live without?
Epicuren exfoliant, La Mer lotion and Kiss My Face lip balm.
You're in My Bloody Valentine that in comes out in theaters soon and will be in 3D. Did you do anything different in your performance knowing that you would be protruding out of the screen towards audience members?
No, I think no matter what technology you are working with the most important thing is to keep it honest and to keep it true. As long as it feels true to you and you're in the moment it is going to be good. If I worry too much about the camera, I find that it is going to take me out of being with the person I am in the scene with.
Sin City 2, which comes out in 2010, is about to begin filming. Can you divulge to readers what they can expect from the twin characters you play, Goldie and Wendy, in this sequel?
The cool thing is that you're going to see both of them together. In the first film they were never on screen together and now in the sequel they will be on the screen at the same time, so that will be really cool.
What is your dream acting role?
To work with someone like Danny Boyle or Tim Burton. Something where I can really share the depth and the range that I know I have inside of me. Something where you can see the character walk through fire to become who they are. Something dramatic I think.
Who would you rate as your top five sexiest men?
1. My husband, Kyle Newman
2. Leonardo DiCaprio
3. Michael Cera
4. Jake Gyllenhaal
5. Thom Yorke
