Fall's hottest hair trends revealed
Written by: Janine Jarman | Photography by: Michael Pool
Fall has arrived, and the season's hottest hair looks are au naturel. Soft and subtle hues are replacing vibrant and punchy colors, while the more contrived spring coifs are giving way to sexy and seemingly undone looks. Keep your look effortless with these three top trends:
1/ Tousled Up Dos
Tousled up dos are huge!!!! Whether it's a frizzy ballet bun, pin up pompadour, or a simple half up and down gathered haphazardly in the back, now's the time to embrace the sexy, slightly mussed look that either spent the day at the beach or a night in Vegas.
Here's a great way to get the undone look in five easy steps:
1. Apply Sebastian Texturizer evenly through damp hair.
2. Fix hair in a loose braid and sleep with it overnight.
3. In the morning, undo the braid and rake fingers gently through hair. Gather hair to the top of your head (1/2 inch from forehead center) and fasten with a hook rubber band (available from Sally's or most beauty supply stores)
4. Tie hair in a loose chain knot (like a shoelace) and pin at base with 2-3 large bobby pins.
5. Finish with Sebastian Shaper Zero Gravity hair spray and pull apart with fingers for a larger, airier look.
2/ Toned Down Reds
Toned down reds are what's hot for fall. Whether it's poppy coppers or peachy strawberry blonds, less is definitely more this season.
If you're blond and just want to dabble in the land of red, ask your stylist for a cellophane hair treatment. This salon color gloss treatment provides a beautiful, shiny tint and lasts for about six to nine washes. A red hot hue mixed with honey blond is the perfect combo for a copper-kissed do.
If you're a brunette or have darker hair, ask your stylist for a baliage treatment to take you red without going over the top. Baliage utilizes hand-painting techniques on selected sections of hair (versus the traditional foils) to create soft and subtle highlights. Look for a tone that's two or three shades lighter than your natural hair to break up the color and show off that red!
If you're already a redhead but looking to take advantage of a more muted hue, ask your stylist for a darker cellophane hair treatment to turn you into a red brunette.
3/ Disco Girls and Middle Parts
Disco girls are popping up everywhere this season. Channel your inner '70s siren with big hair and a middle part. This is a super simple way to switch up your look with no commitment.
1. Apply Sebastian's Volupt Volumizing Spray and Mousse Forte evenly through damp hair for max volume power.
2. Part hair in the middle and blow dry with a flat brush, downwards and smoothly.
3. After hair is dry, curl hair with a medium barrel curling iron and clip curls in place until cool. Release the clips, drop out and shake. Put your sparkly hot pants on and hit the town!
