BEACHER'S MADHOUSE
The Antidote for Being Sick of the Same Old
Jeff Beacher debuted his idiosyncratic brand of a comedy show-meets-vaudeville, which now has a home at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Getting in is not easy or cheap, but if you’re lucky you'll find yourself walking through the space that is part modern day freakshow, part LA nightclub.
IN FIVE WORDS … Hollywood does crazy circus freakshow.
DID YOU KNOW … At the mini bar, a midget mixologist mixes custom Mar-Tinys from mini bottles of liquor at this mini-sized midget bar, which stands at half the height of traditional bar.
DON’T MISS … The current limited engagement of Beacher's Madhouse is open to the pub¬lic only until September 2011. After this summer, the Madhouse will remain open seven nights a week for an exclusive carefully culled membership and their guests.

As you’d expect, the crowd includes the young, hip and fabulous, as well as the older, well connected and moneyed.
IN FIVE WORDS … A room with a view.
DID YOU KNOW … The original Soho House was founded in London in 1995 as a private members club for those in the entertainment and creative industries.
DON’T MISS … The rules, which include a no cell phone policy. So if you’re shy, know you won’t be able to hide by having a fake conversation with your own voicemail.

DEL MONTE TOWNHOUSE SPEAKEASY
Proof That LA Has History
After years of waiting for permits, the city has finally allowed Townhouse (which has been serving alcohol almost every day since it opened in 1915, including during prohibition, the Great Depression and two world wars) to reopen its basement, finally providing a decent-sized dance floor in Venice.
IN FIVE WORDS … Old-fashioned yet divey chic.
DID YOU KNOW … During Prohibition, the upstairs bar became a grocery store but the basement turned into a speakeasy, receiving shipments of hooch through secret tunnels from the basement out to the beach where bootleggers delivered the goods by boat.
DON’T MISS … The late-night taco truck conveniently located directly out front at closing time.

One To Watch: Jennifer Wilde Anderson
Modern Day Social Hostess
WHY:
Consummate hostess and founder of The Ivy Plus Society (TIPS), Anderson (who is also a lawyer by day), has tapped into the next step in social networking — personally making introductions among people who should meet each other. TIPS provides social networking events for alumni of a select group of schools, but she does much more than that: As a social organizer of hundreds of events per year, bringing thousands of people together, Anderson does what looking at your friends in common on Facebook cannot do— she adds that human touch of saying to two people, “Did you know you both are from …?”
WHAT’S NEXT:
After bringing TIPS to seven cities so far, with immense success, Anderson is now launching a new event series, similar to TIPS, but open to non-Ivy Plus alums as well, called Drink Exchange.
