Picture a quaint seaside estate that looks and feels like it belongs on the East Coast, minus the harsh snowy winters and five-hour plane ride to get there. The newly reborn L'Auberge Del Mar looks like a million bucks - make that $26 million, the price tag of a massive renovation in which the entire property was gutted and overhauled. Nestled in the heart of Del Mar, L'Auberge is located steps from the beach and has long exuded a chateau-meets-intimate coastal resort, ideal for weddings and romantic getaways. The makeover, complete just in time for race season, maintains its timeless charm but adds a shot of younger, sleeker, sophisticated energy. All 120 guestrooms and eight suites have been redesigned by Newport Beach-based Barclay Butera with plush modern amenities - from walk-in showers, marble vanities, flat-screen televisions and high-speed Wi-Fi access throughout the property, to a private patio or cabana featured in every room. Guests can also enjoy a refurbished lobby, updated meeting and event ballrooms, a newer outdoor area with an additional 2,000 square feet of meeting space, a waterfall terrace, the new Bleu Bar and a new pool deck. Expect a new American cuisine-themed restaurant (pictured above) come this October with James Beard Chef Paul McCabe at the culinary reigns, followed by a new 4,500-square-foot, freestanding luxury spa to debut in December.
